Syllabus, as the National Testing Agency prints it
NTA prints the Mathematics and Chemistry unit names in capitals. They are shown here in ordinary capitals, and two printed spelling slips in Mathematics are corrected: the syllabus prints INTEGRAL CALCULAS and DIFFRENTIAL EQUATIONS. Papers 2A and 2B print the same Mathematics and Aptitude Test lists, so those appear once.

A free tracker for these 81 units
Download the JEE Main tracker as a CSV file. It has one row for each unit above, in the same columns as the printable syllabus tracker: minutes studied and the date you finish the first pass sit in separate columns, so a long session cannot pass for a finished unit. Add a row with Round 2 when you go through a stage again. It is free and needs no sign-up.
How AspirantGoal handles JEE Main
AspirantGoal ships a syllabus template for JEE Main, checked against app version 1.0.0 on 22 October 2026. It is an editable study aid built from published exam information, so compare it with the units above and edit what differs. You can also set the exam up as a goal of your own, which plans, times and tracks the same way.
Questions
How many questions are there in JEE Main Paper 1, and how many marks?
Paper 1 has 75 questions for 300 marks. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry each have 20 multiple choice questions in Section A and 5 numerical value questions in Section B, worth 100 marks per subject. [1] para 2.4 Paper 1 table, printed p. 11
Is there negative marking in JEE Main?
Yes. In Paper 1 a correct answer earns 4 marks, an incorrect answer loses 1 mark, and an unanswered question, or one marked for review without an answer, scores 0. This applies to both Section A and Section B. Papers 2A and 2B use the same marks, and the Drawing Test has no negative marking. [1] para 2.4 marking scheme items and notes, printed pp. 11 to 14
Can I use a calculator in JEE Main?
No. NTA’s FAQ says the use of calculators in any form is not permitted in JEE (Main). A public notice of 2 November 2025 repeats this and says the on-screen calculator mentioned in an earlier version of the bulletin does not apply to JEE (Main). [3] FAQ no. 7, p. 1, and source 4, the public notice of 02 November 2025, second paragraph
Is JEE Main conducted on computer or on paper?
Paper 1 is a computer based test only. In Paper 2A, Mathematics and the Aptitude Test are on computer and the Drawing Test is on paper, on an A4 drawing sheet. Paper 2B is on computer. [1] para 2.1, printed p. 10
How long is each JEE Main paper?
Paper 1, Paper 2A and Paper 2B are each 3 hours. A candidate who takes both Paper 2A and Paper 2B gets 3 hours 30 minutes. [1] para 2.5, printed pp. 15 and 16
Which subjects are in each JEE Main paper?
Paper 1 (B.E. / B.Tech.): Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Paper 2A (B.Arch.): Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test. Paper 2B (B.Planning): Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Planning Based Questions. [1] para 2.3 table, printed p. 11
In which languages can I write JEE Main?
The 2026 bulletin lists thirteen: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The paper is in English and the language chosen in the application form, which cannot be changed later. Choices depend on the examination centre. [1] para 2.2 and Note 2.2, printed p. 10
How do I answer the numerical value questions?
In Section B you enter the answer as an integer, using the mouse and the on-screen virtual numeric keypad. The answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer. [1] para 2.4 Paper 1 table note, printed p. 11, and para 2.4.2, printed p. 15
What is JEE Main used for?
Paper 1 is for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions and institutions funded or recognized by participating state governments. It is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced). Paper 2 is for B.Arch. and B.Planning courses. [1] para 1.3, printed p. 7
Where is the official JEE Main syllabus?
NTA publishes Syllabus for JEE (Main) 2026 on https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/. It covers Paper 1 and the Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing and Planning parts of Papers 2A and 2B. [2] PDF pp. 1 to 17; the bulletin points to the NTA website in para 2.6, printed p. 16
What this page leaves out
Dates, fees, age limits, attempts, eligibility and cut-offs change every cycle, so this page does not repeat them. Read them in the current notice.
Notes on the documents:
- No JEE Main 2027 bulletin or syllabus was listed on jeemain.nta.nic.in or nta.ac.in on 23 October 2026, so the 2026 documents are used. Re-check when NTA publishes the 2027 bulletin.
- NTA’s public notice of 2 November 2025 says the first version of the 2026 bulletin wrongly mentioned an on-screen calculator, and that a revised bulletin was uploaded. This page uses the revised bulletin.
- The bulletin does not say in words whether every Section B question must be attempted. Its table lists 5 Section B questions per subject, with 75 questions for 300 marks in Paper 1.
- The syllabus prints the Part II Aptitude Test of Papers 2A and 2B as UNIT - 1 and UNIT - 2 without unit titles, and the Drawing Test as one sentence, so those items are the printed phrases.
