Your own goal in AspirantGoal: with or without a deadline

Any goal can be set up as your own goal in AspirantGoal, whether or not it has a deadline. Name it, break it into subjects and topics, add a date if it has one, then plan hours and record sessions the way you would for an exam from the list.

The exam list in AspirantGoal is a shortcut. If your goal has a body of work you can break into parts, you can set it up as your own goal. A professional certification, a language test, a college paper and a thesis with chapters all have that shape. Some have a date and some do not.

Step 1: name the goal

Make a goal of your own. If it has a deadline, set the date. If it does not, leave the date out and work to a weekly rhythm instead. From here on a goal of your own works the same way as an exam from the list.

Step 2: break it into subjects and topics

A subject is a body of work inside the goal. Under it, topics and subtopics hold the points you will work through. Type them in, or import a syllabus if you have one as a list. Aim for points small enough that you can say, after one session, whether you finished them.

Step 3: put hours on it

Size each subject in hours with your own estimate. With a date, work out the hours between now and then and compare. Without one, choose how many hours a week the goal gets and review that number every few weeks. If the hours do not fit, change the budget or the date before you start, not in the last week.

Example. An illustration, with made-up numbers. A language test is in 45 days and you have 2 hours a day, which is 90 hours. You split the work into four subjects with budgets of 25, 20, 15 and 10 hours. That is 70 hours assigned against 90 available, so the plan keeps a 20 hour buffer.

Step 4: record sessions and keep coverage separate

Start the Study Timer on a topic. The session adds minutes to that topic and keeps a page for your note. Mark a stage finished only when you decide it is done. Hours and coverage are two numbers, so a long session never turns into a finished topic on its own.

How AspirantGoal handles this

  • A goal of your own has its own subjects, topics, plan and history, like an exam from the list, and a date if you give it one.
  • Roadmap, Month, Week and Today turn the goal into hours for each period. When several goals share the same days, they show one buffer.
  • Each topic can carry stages, and a round is another pass through one stage.
  • When the goal is done, archive it. Its syllabus, notes, progress and history stay, and you can restore it later.

What this does not tell you

This guide does not say how many hours your goal needs, and the app does not check your topics against any official source. Whoever sets the standard, such as a university or a test provider, is the authority on what it covers. AspirantGoal has no classes, courses or mentoring. You study from your own material.

Try it on one subject.
