A free tracker for these 43 units

Download the GATE tracker as a CSV file. It has one row for each unit above, in the same columns as the printable syllabus tracker: minutes studied and the date you finish the first pass sit in separate columns, so a long session cannot pass for a finished unit. Add a row with Round 2 when you go through a stage again. It is free and needs no sign-up.

The file holds General Aptitude and the section titles of the five papers above. For another paper, add its sections from the official syllabus PDF in the table.

How AspirantGoal handles GATE

AspirantGoal ships a syllabus template for GATE, checked against app version 1.0.0 on 22 October 2026. It is an editable study aid built from published exam information, so compare it with the units above and edit what differs. You can also set the exam up as a goal of your own, which plans, times and tracks the same way.

Questions

How many questions and marks does a GATE 2027 paper have?

Every test paper has 65 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. Ten of them, carrying 15 marks, are on General Aptitude: 5 questions of 1 mark and 5 questions of 2 marks. The other 55 questions are on the subject. [3] Sections 7.3 and 7.3.1, printed pp. 23 to 24 (PDF pp. 27 to 28)

Is there negative marking in GATE 2027?

Yes, for MCQs only. A wrong answer to a 1-mark MCQ loses 1/3 mark and a wrong answer to a 2-mark MCQ loses 2/3 mark. There is no negative marking for MSQ or NAT questions, and no partial marking in MSQ. [1] Question Paper Pattern page, row Negative Marking; brochure section 7.2.1, printed pp. 22 to 23 (PDF pp. 26 to 27)

What types of questions are asked?

Three types: Multiple Choice Questions with one correct option out of four, Multiple Select Questions with one or more correct options out of four, and Numerical Answer Type questions where the answer is a number typed on a virtual keypad. [3] Section 7.2.1, printed pp. 22 to 23 (PDF pp. 26 to 27)

How long is the exam and how is it taken?

Each paper is a computer based test in English and lasts 3 hours. A virtual scientific calculator is shown on the screen; calculators and mobile phones are not allowed in the exam hall. [3] Sections 4 and 7, printed p. 4 (PDF p. 8) and printed p. 22 (PDF p. 26)

Which GATE papers have Engineering Mathematics?

AE, AG, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, ES, IN, ME, MN, MT, NM, PE and PI carry 13 marks of Engineering Mathematics inside their 85 subject marks. XE has a common Engineering Mathematics section, XE0, of 15 marks. [3] Section 7.3, printed p. 24 (PDF p. 28)

Is General Aptitude the same for every paper?

Yes. General Aptitude (GA) is common to all papers and carries 15 marks. Its units are Verbal Aptitude, Quantitative Aptitude, Analytical Aptitude and Spatial Aptitude. [2] Test Papers & Syllabus page, paragraph below the paper table; General Aptitude syllabus PDF, p. 1

Can I take more than one GATE paper?

A candidate can appear in one test paper or in up to two. The second paper must be chosen from the allowed two-paper combinations listed on the GATE 2027 website. [2] Test Papers & Syllabus page, second paragraph; Two-Paper Combination page

Where is the official syllabus for each paper?

The Test Papers & Syllabus page of the GATE 2027 website links a syllabus PDF for each of the 30 papers, and the Information Brochure prints the syllabi in Appendix D. [2] Test Papers & Syllabus page; brochure Appendix D, printed p. 35 (PDF p. 39)

What is different in GATE 2027?

The syllabi of most test papers are revised. Robotics and Automation (RA) is a new paper. Textile Engineering and Fibre Science is now section XE9 of the XE paper. The codes of the XE, XH and XL sectional papers have changed. [3] Sections 2 and 5.2, printed p. 2 (PDF p. 6) and printed p. 5 (PDF p. 9)

What this page leaves out

Dates, fees, age limits, attempts, eligibility and cut-offs change every cycle, so this page does not repeat them. Read them in the current notice.

Notes on the documents:

  • The numbers of 1-mark and 2-mark questions in the subject part of most papers are not stated. Only the totals are given: 65 questions, 10 in General Aptitude and 55 in the subject, for 100 marks.
  • The Question Paper Pattern page says candidates must select any two of the other sections in the XE and XL papers, and the brochure says at most two can be answered.
  • The Notifications page lists brochure versions up to 1.2 (10 August 2026), but the PDF linked on the Download page is dated 17 October 2026. The facts here were checked against both the website pages and the 17 October brochure.
  • Only the section titles of each syllabus are listed here. The topics inside each section are printed in the official PDFs.
